2009 Shanahan International Tournament Rules

GENERAL RULES

1. CHA / OHF / GTHL rules in effect, unless otherwise noted
2. Teams must be prepared to play 20 minutes before the published start time of their game
3. AP's must be listed on your first game sheet
4. AP's playing in the tournament for their own team may not be called up until their own team is eiliminated
5. The only exception to the above AP rule is for goaltenders
6. One two minute warm-up before each game
7. Each category plays 3 x 15 minute stop time periods
8. Two points are awarded for a win and one point is awarded to each team for a tie
9. No overtime in round robin games or consolation games
10. Overtime will be played in Round of 16 and all playoff games as follows:
  1. 4 on 4 for 5mins running time, if still tied,
  2. 3 man shootout to determine winner - no one player may shoot more than once, if still tied
  3. Sudden death shoot out - no one player may shoot more than once unless every player has taken a shot
11. There will be one :30sec time out per team in the Round of 16 and in the playoffs only

ADVANCING: Games 1 , 2, and 3 are used to determine which 16 teams will advance onto the Round of 16

GAME 4: ROUND OF 16 GAMES

1. Who advances to the Round of 16?
 2000: The first place team in each division advance plus the next 11 best teams based on the Tie Break Format
 1999: The first place team in each division advance plus the next 6 best teams based on the Tie Break Format
 1998: The first place team in each division advance plus the next best 9 teams based on the Tie Break Format
 1997: The first place team in each division advance plus the next 11 best teams based on the Tie Break Format

2. How are the 16 teams ranked in the Round of 16?
2000: The 5 first place teams are ranked 1 through 5 based on the Tie Break Format with the next 11 teams being ranked 6 through 16 based on the Tie Break Format
1999: The 10 first place teams are ranked 1 through 10 based on the Tie Break Format with the next 6 teams being ranked 11 through 16 based on the Tie Break Format
1998: The 7 first place teams are ranked 1 through 7 based on the Tie Break Format with the next 9 teams beaing ranked 8 through 16 based on the Tie Break Format
1997: The 5 first place teams are ranked 1 through 5 based on the Tie Break Format with the next 11 teams being ranked 6 through 16 based on the Tie Break Format
The seeding for the Round of 16 will be as follows
1 vs 16
2 vs 15
3 vs 14
4 vs 13
5 vs 12
6 vs 11
7 vs 10
8 vs 9

GAME 4: CONSOLATION GAMES
Based on the Tie Break Format teams finsihing 17th and beyond will be matched up with a team with a similar finish after three games for their forth game. Their tournament will be over upon the conclusion of this game which may end in a tie.

QUARTER FINALS
In each category winning teams from the round of 16 will advance to the Quarter Finals as follows:
QF1: Winner of 1 vs 16 to play winner of 8 vs 9
QF2: Winner of 2 vs 15 to play winner fo 7 vs 10
QF3: Winner of 3 vs 14 to play winner of 6 vs 11
QF4: Winner of 4 vs 13 to play winner of 5 vs 12

SEMI-FINALS
In each category winning teams from the Quarter Finals will advance to the Semi-Finals as follows:
SF1: Winner of QF1 vs winner of QF4
SF2: Winner of QF2 vs winner of QF3

FINALS
In each cateogry winning teams from the Semi Finals will advance to the Finals as follows:
F: Winner SF1 vs winner SF2

TIE BREAK FORMAT
1. Most Points
2. Head to Head
3. Most Wins
4. GF Average
5. Least Goals Against
6. Least Penalty Minutes
7. Fastest first goal in first game of round robin
8. Most goals for
9. Most assists
10. Coin toss between team officials

HOW GF AVERAGES ARE CALUCLATED
GF averages are calculated by taking the number of goals scored and dividing it into the total of goals scored plus goals against. The team with the highest percentage being awarded the highest position
EXAMPLE
A team that has scored 54 goals while letting in 9 would have a GF average of 0.8571 caluclated as follows:
54 plus 9 = 63
54 divided by 63 = .8571

NOTES:
1. The Shanahan International Ice Hockey tournament uses only GTHL referrees who adhere to all of Hockey Canada's penalty standards with the strickest enforcement of all check from behinds and stick infractions and have no latititue to replace any of these infractions with a lesser penalty. 2. There will also be an on-site GTHL referee supervisor stationed at Westwood Arena for the duration of the tournament that you may speak to regarding claification of any call.

3. There shall be NO PROTESTS. The decisions of the Tournament Committee shall be final. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to rule on items not previously covered.
